Drape and shape

drape and shape from point to point

drape and shape with direction

Drape and shape always requires a closed contour between the two base lines. The number of spread lines remains variable at any time. Typical areas of application for draping and shape are:

  • patterns with pleats, e.g. pleated skirts
  • incorporating length into the contour for ruffling
  • adding or reducing length to influence the fit

The result of drape and shape is mostly commonly a completed product development. It already contains a number of individual development steps such as distribution of the spread lines, spreading itself, finalising of the contour with hood creation and shaping of the modelling curve.

Spreading and drape and shape can also be called in mother parts as the object structure remains existent.

Initially, two base lines are selected for drape and shape. These define the start and end of the spread lines later on. The spread area is determined via the first and last spread line. The number of interim spread lines can be adjusted interactively and thus, altered at any time. Drape and shape also offers the possibility of defining pleats or darts with relevant hood creation from within the tool.

Step-by-step guide
  • Select tool from the Toolbar.
  • Activate / deactivate autostart and cyclic in the context bar .
  • select first base line
  • select second base line
  • construct the first spread line on the first base line with the sub-menu point construction
    • type point to point construct the end point of the first spread line on the second base line with the sub-menu point construction or
    • type with direction: align the line with the sub-menu direction construction (adjust basic direction, adjust derived direction)

  • construct the last spread line on the first base line with the sub-menu point construction
    • type point to point construct the end point of the last spread line on the second base line with the sub-menu point construction

    • type with direction: align the line with the sub-menu direction construction (adjust basic direction, adjust derived direction)

  • select objects to be spread
  • Confirm selection with

Options (selection) in the drag area spread lines

Having called the tool, initially, the drag area spread lines is active. In this drag area, the options of the spread lines category apply in particular.

At the beginning, only two options are available in this category.

The following options are only active if pre-define starting and end distance is activated in the option:

Options (selection) in the drag area spread

These options are only active in the drag area spread.

These three options define how the spread spacings are set. The main drag cursor is located at the starting point of the first spread line.
